T'ai Chi requires little in the way of productsbut we won't let that stop us from offering you a few. Books are a great way of relaxing, and we have our favorites. Try our new custom made swords.

Can you learn T'ai Chi from video? Many say no, but watching Professor Cheng is quite a treat. Our School also has recently completed its own video, which will be a great adjunct to attending our classes.

Videos

The Principles and Practice of T'ai Chi Chuan
produced for the T'ai Chi Foundation by Rick Brown
to be used as an aid in your study of T'ai Chi.

The first section shows the Yang style short form as a continuous flow from beginning to end, emphasizing the internal principles of T'ai Chi. The second section shows a round which pauses at the postures to point out specific indications in the form. The video begins with a short introduction to our school and has some rarely seen footage of our school's founder, Patrick Watson.

To order copies in the US contact the NYSTCC (212) 502-4112 or email nystcc@taichichuan.org. To order copies in Europe contact Stichting - The School of T'ai Chi Chuan at 31/20/625-9666 or email stcc@xs4all.nl. The cost for each copy is 35 dollars/euros plus shipping.

Also two wonderful films of Professor Cheng Man Ch'ing are combined onto a video. These are the ones that Patrick Watson would pack around the country and show with a movie projector. The first is color and the second is an earlier black and white film.

You may order the video from Cho San Inc. by sending a check for $65 plus $5 U.S. shipping for each video ordered. Correspondence with them in Chinese has yielded two addresses for Cho San Inc. The first is P.O. Box 3275, Asheville, NC 28802 and the second is P.O. Box 820792, Houston, TX 77282-0792. This is not a speedy and sometimes problematic way of getting the video, but one that normally works just fine.
Note: Cho San is not associated with our school.

Books

The following books are available through TaiChiChuan.org :

Cheng's New Method of T'ai Chi Chuan
Newly translated by Mark Hennessy
Cheng Man-ch'ing, the famed master of T'ai Chi, is regarded as an enormously influential figure in codifying the most widely practiced form of the ancient martial art. This volume, developed by the martial arts master and scholar, details the way that students arrive at a posture -- from beginning movements to the end pose.

Cheng Tzu's Thirteen Chapters on T'ai Chuan
by Cheng Man Ch'ing, Translated by Lo & Inn
This text has been and still is tremendously illuminating. It is most useful when digested a concept at a time. The explanations while thick are necessarily so. Professor Cheng has thoroughly described each motion and its applicationa very complex task indeed. Pick a section of the book and try to refine that portion of the form. You will be amazed by his ability to turn a movement you have made thousands of times into something new and amazing.

There Are No Secrets
by Wolfe Lowenthal
Part an insight to the influential Tai Chi Professor, part sagely advice on how to practice Tai Chi, and part one man's personal search for meaning, There Are No Secrets is composed of many short untitled chapters that relate these parts in almost wandering way. Each chapter is self-contained and brief enough to drive the point without pontificating. Lowenthal's "relaxed" style is invigorating and helps the overall flow of the book making it a joy to read.

T'ai Chi Chuan - a simplified method of calisthenics
Cheng Man-Ching
This is the original classic about the Short Form the most popular and widespread form of Tai Chi in the West, it is a must read for every serious Tai Chi student.

Yang Family Secret Transmissions
Translated by Douglas Wile Yang Family, 153 p.p.
A comprehensive record of the teachings of the Yang family, including oral instructions, mnemonic verses and training songs, commentaries on the T'ai Chi classics, essays, autobiography and family legends.
