Summer Retreat 2025
Nurture & Grow with Tai Chi
Monday, June 9th – Friday, June 13th
8th level begins June 7th, Apprentice day June 8th
Smith College, Northampton, MA 01063
We are delighted to return to beautiful Smith College for our summer retreat and invite you to join us for a rejuvenating week of activities!
This is a wonderful opportunity especially as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Tai Chi Foundation, to join a diverse group of participants, forge new friendships, gain new awareness and share in a joyful celebration of community.
What to expect:
- Legacy Holders Margaret Olmsted and Sherry Kent, along with Bob Etherington, Steve Shulman, and other senior teachers will lead a teaching team with over forty years of experience.
- Daily guided classes – two hours of Tai Chi and a further two hours including qigong, and in- depth work to grow your practice at every level
- Additional opportunities for students in push hands practice or rounds
- Two levels of sword form classes
- Sitting meditation and relaxation exercises
- Evening programs including a special presentation exploring the history and growth of our school, with several Legacy Holders and senior teachers relating their experiences in the evolution of the Tai Chi Foundation
- You can choose to do as much or as little as you wish. Complete beginners are very welcome.
- Possibly Hawaiian Swimming (TBD)
- Hawaiian swimming is swimming in a state of calmness, moving through water with tai chi principles. Moving freely from the dantian, our center and feeling the energy of the water with our whole body. We focus on breathing and relaxing as we move through the water. Two Hawaiian swimmers, Eddie Ukini and Cliff Kamaka taught the art of Hawaiian swimming to our founder Patrick Watson in the 1960’s.
We will be staying in two dorms, Lawrence and Hubbard, directly across the street from our class facilities. And they have been upgraded with individual air conditioning units!
The dining hall gets rave reviews and includes a broad selection of foods including vegetarian, gluten-free bread and choices for all.
During the week, spend some time wandering through the Smith College Botanical gardens or the Smith College Art Museum, sit by the lake, or take a short walk into the delightful town of Northampton.
